The authors described the recent advances of local anesthesie in ophthalmology, which were summerized as follows:

1) Noblon and sedes were excellent as preanesthetic medication of ophthalmic surgery.

2) Some new local anesthetic agents, such as calocain, buthylcain (tetracaine), cornecain, onocain, xylocaine et al, when administered conbined with new vasoconstrictors, privina, nor-adrenalin and nabel, produced more satisfactory effects than cocain with epinephrin and caused no undisirable side reactions.

3) Good akinesia of the orbicularis was obtained by Atkinson's method.
