About the effect of Methionine on the normal and abnormal Dark-adaptation

緒言

　著者の一人小山田は，メチオニンの視覚生理学的研究の一部として，先にl-メチオニンの正常眼暗順応に及ぼす影響を，網膜の中心部及び周辺部の各部位に就いて検索の結果，メチオニンは可成り暗順応を促進することを報告した。今回は，dl-メチオニンの正常眼暗順応，及び網膜色素変性症患者の暗順応に及ぼす影響を検索し，一方対照として，アダプチノールの暗順応に及ぼす影響を，夫々に就いて検索したが，それ等の暗順応促進効果の比較検討を試みて，メチオニンの眼科的応用への手がかりの一つとしたいと考えた。

We examined the effect of Methionine on the dark-adaptation of the normal eye and on that of the eye of retinitis pigmentosa, while we examined the effect of Adaptinol on the respective dark-adaptations as control. Thus we compared the dark-adaptation stimu-lating effect of the former with that of the latter.

The dark-adaptation stimulating effect of 3 gr. Metionine on the normal eye was very immediate and had been increasing during seven days of continuous medication, while its continuous medication to patients of retinitis pigmentosa was stimulating for light cases, but quite ineffectual for serious cases.
