Directional sensitivity of the retinal receptor cell layers can be represented as the Stiles-Crawford effect, and some amblyopic eyes in which the curves for the Stiles-Crawford effect were distorted have been found by Enoch. The-se two facts suggest that resolving power of the retina might fall when there are constitu-tional disturbances in the retinal receptor cell layers, that is to say, when oblique rays enter the retinal receptor cell layers. But this relati-onship of oblique rays and the resolving power of the retina has not been clear.
