Limits of Corrections of Refractive Errors by Contact Lens

緒言

　コンタクトレンズの最も頻度の高い使用法は屈折異常矯正である。当然のことながら，屈折異常矯正レンズは，その装用状態において，あらゆる径線にて，無限遠の点と網膜中心窩が共軛関係にあることが要求される。著者の一人西信は，かつてこの問題を検討し，臨床に便利な計算表を発表している。われわれは今回，先に中尾らの発表せる光学的模型眼を用いて光線追跡を行ない，コンタクトレンズの矯正効果を検討したので報告する。

The contact lens has, in general, greater me-rits in correcting the refractive error than spe-ctable lens. Theoretically, though, the contact lens can correct only the astigmatism of the cornea, as the tear film between the lens and the cornea functions as the cylindrical lens and thus counteracts the corneal astigmatism. That this assumption is open to question has been shown by the present authors by calculation of the cylindrical effect of the tear film using the ray tracing method in aspherical eye model by computer.
