I．緒言
コンタクトレンズ（以下コ・レと略す）の過去数年間の進歩発達は実に目覚ましく，現在では適応さえ選べば，臨床上安心して利用出来しかも高度屈折異常，円錐角膜，角膜不正乱視，不同視眼等には，素晴らしい治療効果を表わしている事は誠に喜ばしいことである。しかし現在，吾々がコ・レでは満足な効果を挙げ得ないものに老視眼の矯正がある。勿論正視から老視を合併した場合には近見時に凸のコ・レを装用すれば読書は可能であるが，遠見は出来ない。遠見の際には一々レンズを取りはずさなければならない。この装脱は老眼鏡の場合に比較して，手指，レンズの清浄を必要として繁雑である許りでなく，老視の進行に伴い，レンズを度々交換するのに費用がかかり余り感心出来ない。まして屈折異常のある場合には，遠用近用二つのレンズを交互に装脱しなければならず眼鏡レンズに比して，操作は更に繁雑である。又老視眼でなくとも，最高度近視とか，無水晶体眼の場合にも，近用眼鏡をコ・レと併用しなければ近業は満足になし得ない。これらの欠点を除く意味で，一つのレンズに遠近両用のための度をつけた所謂二焦点コンタクトレンズ（bifocal conta—ct lenses）が出来れば，遠見と近見とが同時に一つのレンズで出来て便利である。
The design of this new type contact lens is constracted by two lenses of which one is larger and called as parent lens and another is smaller and called as child lens.
The parent lenses are fitted directly on the cornea as usual as normal contact lenses cor-recting refraction.
The child or small contact lenses are pre-scribed as follows ; their curvature of inner surface are aligned as one of the anterior sur-face of parent lens, their total diameter are very small (8.0-6.5mm), their thickness are very thin and they have the added power for reading.
