The clinical and genetic features of gelatinous drop-like dystrophy that has been reported in Japan since 1914 were described. An investigation of three cases with gelatinous drop-like dystrophy revealed amyloid material on the corneal lesions by histochemical and electron microscopical tech-niques. Gelatinous drop-like dystrophy in Japan is almost certainly a localized form of heredo-familial corneal amyloidosis to differ from lattice dystrophy.
