Use of Lysozyme in Ophthalmology

緒言

　1922年Flemingに依り卵白から発見されたLysozyme （以下「リ」と略す）なる酵素は，その後，多くの研究に依り化学的生物学的性質が解明されるにつれ，又生体内に於ける存在意義が明らかになるに従い，各科領域の注目を集め，特に近年は発見当初の溶菌作用のみでなく，種々の薬理作用を有する事が判り，その臨床的応用に大きな期待が寄せられている。

　眼科領域に於いても，涙液中の「リ」含有量が生体中最も多い事に着目し，点眼薬として利用する試みが古くからあり，或程度の成果をあげている。今回我々は動物実験も行ない，人の各種眼疾患特に前眼部疾患に「リ」点眼薬として試用し，興味ある知見を得たので報告する。

A clinical appraisal was made over the pos-sible beneficial effect of 0.5% lysozyme oph-thalmic solution as topically applied in various affections of the eye as follows :

1. Acute conjunctivitis (26 cases). The effect was judged as excellent in 4 cases, fair in 16 and ineffective in 6 cases. 77% of treated cases thus responded favorably to the treatment.

2. Chronic conjunctivitis (16 cases). The out-come was excellent in 2 cases, fair in 11 and ineffective in 3 cases. 81% thus responded fa-vorably to treatment.

3. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (9 cases).
