I. STUDIES ON THE METHODS OF FRACTIONATION OF THE SOLUBLE LENS PROTEINS OF RATS WITH AGE

The three electrophoretic fractions are given with the method to fraction the lens proteins by isoelectric precipitation (Krause 1932), but these fractions are contaminated with a-crystal-lin itself.

Chromatography on DEAE-cellulose (Papaco-nstantinou et al., 1962 and Spector, 1964) has been done with stepwise elution. This methods may produce artifacts, for it has been revealed that same protein may be eluted in subsequent peaks.

The lens proteins could not be separated by the method of chromatography on CM-cellulose with gradient elution system.
