Fourty-three eyes in 39 cases were followed up as to visual acuity and visual field before and after surgery for primary glaucomas. Pe-ripheral iridectomy (14 eyes) , corneoscleral tre-phining (15 eyes), iridectomy with sclera] cau-tery (13 eyes) or extraction of the lens (1 eye) was resorted to as the method of surgery. Following findings were observed:

1. Decrease in visual acuity set in in 11 eyes out of 43 (25.5%) following surgery. Deteriora-tion in vision was the greater in cases with the more advanced visual field defects.

2. Defects in visual field progressed further in 6 eyes out of 43 following surgery.
