視力検査用の新作平仮名視標

Newly designed "Hirakana" Optotypes

　先に視力検査の標準装置試案として私共^1）は正確なLandolt環（以下L環）を配列したものを発表したが，同時に視力表・視力検査具の分類大綱として，1）標準視力検査装置，2）スクリーニング用視力検査具，3）特殊視力検査具の3者をあげた。今回は，そのうちのスクリーニング検査具に属せしむべき紙製視力表などに使用し，臨床検査における実用価値が高い文字視標を新たに試作した。わが国の文字視標は，石原式視力表^2）で代表される片仮名が戦前までは専ら用いられていたが，戦後の学制改革以来，小学校1年生で平仮名の学習から始められるようになったのに即応して平仮名視力表が発表され，今日，各種字体の平仮名視標が使われている。総じて平仮名は視力検査用の視標化が困難な字体であるが，国字の仮名は平仮名を主体とする線を崩さないとの文部省の意向があるので，視力表の文字視標は平仮名を主流とするのが妥当と思われ，視力検査基準化の一環として作製した今回の文字視標も平仮名を選んだ。

Japanese letters of "Hirakana" series are composed of irregularly crooked components and it was difficult to obtain good "Hirakana" optotypes for visual acuity testing. New optotypes of improved design consisting of a set of 10 "Hirakana" letters were reported. They were of the familiar bold-faced type and their contours were composed of straight lines and semicircular arcs, so as to be drawn with geometrical exactness. Experimental studies showed that the visibility of the optotypes corresponded to that of the Landolt's rings with the same dimension.
