Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of drusenoid detachment of retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)that turned into RPE tear five years later. Case:A 61-year-old male presented with metamorphopsia in the left eye. Corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and 0.9 left. The right eye showed confluent soft drusen. The left eye showed serous detachment of RPE with choroidal neovascularization. Clinical Course:The right eye developed drusenoid RPE detachment 5 years later. After another 5 years, RPE tear appeared with decreased visual acuity to 0.2. The left eye developed subretinal hemorrhage 20 months after initial visit, followed by typical course of exudative age-related macular degeneration with decreased visual acuity to 0.03. Conclusion:The present case illustrates that drusenoid detachment of RPE may develop RPE tear after long-term follow-up.
