Abstract. Purpose:To investigate the association between HIV-related retinal microangiopathy and HIV associated neurocognitive disorders(HAND). Methods:Single-center, cross-sectional, retrospective study. Study participants were 383 HIV-infected patients who were assessed for ocular manifestations before the beginning of antiretroviral therapy. The presence of HIV-related retinal microangiopathy and HAND were collected from the medical records. The significance of association between HIV-related retinal microangiopathy and HAND was determined by Fisher's exact test. Results:HIV-related retinal microangiopathy was present in 85 patients, and HAND was present in 9 patients. There was a significant association between presence of HIV-related retinal microangiopathy and presence of HAND(p=0.0013:Fisher's exact test). Conclusions:This finding indicates that patients who have HIV-related retinal microangiopathy tend to complicate HAND. Thus, the presence of HIV-related retinal microangiopathy may be a predictive factor for concomitance of HAND.
