Abstract. Purpose:To report 2 cases who needed replacement of intraocular lens(IOL)after detection of signs of infection at the sites grasped by forceps on the lens surface. Cases and Findings:Both were females aged 61 and 70 years respectively. They showed precipitates at the sites of IOL grasped by forceps 6 days after cataract surgery. Signs of endophthalmitis were also present that failed to respond to topical antibiotics and corticosteroids. IOL was replaced the following day in both cases. Cultures from aqueous and removed IOL were negative. Both cases have been doing well until present. Conclusion:These cases illustrate that replacement of IOL may be effective after detection of precipitates suggestive of infection.
