Abstract. Purpose:To report a short-term outcome of cataract surgery with insertion of toric intraocular lens. Cases and Method:Cataract surgery was performed on 70 eyes of 48 patients with insertion of toric intraocular lens SN6AT3,4 or 5. Cases were followed up for 3 months or longer. Results:Corneal astigmatism before surgery averaged 0.96±0.47D in 24 eyes inserted with SN6AT3,1.25±0.35D in 26 eyes inserted with AT4,and 2.28±0.61D in 20 eyes inserted with AT5. It averaged, respectively 1.16±0.53D,1.35±0.42D and 2.2±0.91D after surgery. There were no differences between pre-and postsurgical values. Subjective total astigmatism averaged,respectively,0.64±0.57D,0.76±0.52D and 1.05±0.71D after surgery. The values were significantly smaller than those of corneal astigmatism after surgery. Conclusion:Toric intraocular lens promises to reduce total astigmatism in eyes with corneal astigmatism.
