Abstract. Background:Sarcoidosis of the orbit is characterized by its infrequency among orbital tumors and by low incidence of ocular involvement. Purpose:To report a case of orbital sarcoidosis. Case:A 61-year-old male was referred for us for left orbital tumor of 3 months' duration. Magnetic resonance imaging had shown an orbital tumor in the lower portion of left orbit. Findings:He had full visual acuity with no pathological findings in the eyeglobe. The left lower eyelid was swollen. Computed tomography showed a tumor mass in both orbits. Positron emission tomography(PET)showed signs of accumulation in both orbit and preauricular lymph nodes. Tuberculin reaction was negative. Biopsy of left orbit showed granular lesions. Swelling of hilar lymph nodes was present in the lung. These findings led to the diagnosis of orbital sarcoidosis. Peroral prednisolone was followed by marked decrease of orbital tumor 1 months later. There has been no recurrence during 6 months until present. Conclusion:This case illustrates that sarcoidosis may manifest as orbital tumor.
