Abstract. Purpose:To report the reliability of Mayo Clinic Office-based Scale(MCS)and Newcastle Control Score(NCS)as applied to intermittent exotropia. Cases and Method:This study was made on 15 consecutive cases of intermittent exotropia. The age ranged from 6 to 36 years, median 9 years. Patients were evaluated by two orthoptists followed by re-evaluation by an ophthalmologist. Findings were assessed by Spearman rank correlation coefficient. Results:There were significant correlations between scores by two orthoptists(MCS:r=0.99,p=0.0002. NCS:r=1,p=0.0003),between scores by orthoptists and ophthalmologist(MCS:r=0.83,p=0.0018. NCS:r=0.98,p=0.0004)and between scores by MCS and NCS(r=0.85. p=0.0020). Conclusion:There is a high correlation between scores by MCS and NCS. Both methods show a high interobserver agreement. MCS NCS promises to be of value in assessing intermittent exotropia.
