Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of orthoptic training using a new and conventional instrument in patients of intermittent exotropia. Cases and Method:This study was made on 10 cases of intermittent exotropia. The age ranged from 6 to 16 yeaers, average 8 years. All the eyes had corrected visual acuity of 1.2. Orthoptic training was continued for 3 to 12 months. The instrument consisted of 3-dimensional display, a personal computer, and a pair of spectacles with polarizer. Results:Eight cases showed antisuppression effect and improved fusional ability. Median value of fusional angle improved from 6Δ before to 70Δ after training. Two cases showed no improvements who had deviation of 40Δ or vertical deviation. Conclusion:The present new instrument induced better concentration by the patients and resulted in elimination of suppression with improved fusional ability.
