Abstract. Purpose:To report the clinical course of untreated polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy over 10 months in a case of retinitis pigmentosa. Case:A 74-year-old male presented with impaired vision in his left eye since 2 months before. He had been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa 10 years before. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and 0.8 left. Both eyes showed fundus findings compatible with retinitis pigmentosa. The left eye showed elevated macular lesion surrounded by serous retinal detachment. Optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography led to the diagnosis of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. The macular lesion gradually enlarged with visual acuity down to 0.4 4 months later and to 0.1 another 6 months later. Conclusion:This case illustrates that impaired vision in a patient with retinitis pigmentosa may be due to polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy.
