Abstract. Purpose:To report 3 cases of atopic dermatitis who developed luxation of intraocular lens(IOL). Cases and Findings:All the 3 cases were males and were aged 31,34 and 38 years respectively. All had atopic dermatitis and habitually struck the face for itchiness. All the cases had received cataract surgery with IOL implantation in the past. Two had received surgery for retinal detachment. IOL luxation occurred 5,9 and 16 years respectively after implantation. Luxation was unilateral in 2 cases and bilateral in one. Luxation occurred into the vitreous in 2 eyes and anteriorly in 2. IOL luxation was treated by vitreous surgery in all the cases. Two eyes received reinsertion of IOL. Conclusion:IOL luxation may develop after years of cataract surgery in cases of atopic dermatitis who have a history of retinal detachment and who have the habit to strike the face for itchiness. Precaution is necessary about IOL luxation in such high-risk cases.
