Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of subtenon injection of methylprednisolone acetate for retinal vein occlusions. Cases and Method:This study was made on 5 eyes of 5 patients with macular edema. Central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO)was present in 2 eyes and branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)in 3 eyes. Macular edema showed no tendency to spontaneous resolution during the foregoing 3 months. Each eye received posterior subtenon injection of 10 mg methylprednisolone acetate and was followed up for 3 months or longer. Visual acuity was evaluated in terms of logMAR. Results:Visual acuity improved in 2 eyes and remained unchanged in 3 eyes after 3 months of injection. Averaged visual acuity significantly improved after 3 months. There was no change in macular edema or retinal thickness in the fovea as measured by optical coherence tomography(OCT). There was no complication throughout the course of observation. Conclusion:Posterior subtenon injection of 10 mg methylprednisolone acetate was safe but failed to show marked improvement in macular edema in eyes with CRVO or BRVO.
