Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of surgery for proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR)in children and adults. Cases and Method:This study was made on 27 eyes of 25 patients who received vitreous surgery for PVR during the past 4 years. The series comprised 8 eyes of children under 15 years of age and 19 eyes in adults aged between 15 and 85 years. Results:The retina became reattached in 4 out of 7 eyes(57%)in children and in 17 out of 18 eyes(94%)in adults. The difference was significant(p<0.05). Final visual acuity was 0.1 or better in 2 eyes(25%)in children and in 13 eyes(72%)in adults. The difference was significant(p<0.05). Conclusion:Final visual acuity after surgery for PVR was poorer in children under 15 years of age than in adults aged 15 years or over.
