Abstract. Purpose:To report the clinical features and findings by optical coherence tomography(OCT)of macular pseudoholes. Cases:This retrospective study was made on 21 eyes of 21 cases who were diagnosed with macular pseudohole. The series comprised 6 males and 15 females. Ten eyes were treated by surgery. The other 11 eyes were followed up without surgery. Results:After surgery, corrected visual acuity significantly improved(p<0.05)and macular thickness significantly increased(p<0.05). There was no correlation between visual acuity and macular thickness after surgery. Findings of macular pseudohole by OCT improved in 7 eyes and remained unchanged in 3 eyes. In 11 eyes that received no surgery, there was no change in visual acuity or in the shape of pseudohole when seen by OCT during the follow-up for an average of 31.5 months. Conclusion:In macular pseudoholes, morphology of the macula and visual acuity may improve after vitreous surgery. Findings by OCT do not serve as a guide in the decision of indication for surgery.
