Abstract. Purpose:To report the incidence and causes of blepharospasm among users of psychotropic drugs. Cases and Method:We reviewed the clinical record of 110 users of psychotropic drugs who were seen our clinic during the past 2 years. The series comprised 31 males and 79 females. The age ranged from 16 to 94 years,average 67 years. Forty-seven cases were using antipsychotic and antianxiety drugs,23 cases were using antianxiety only,and 15 cases were using antipsychotic drugs only. Results:Fifty-two cases(47%)were diagnosed with definite and 17 cases(15%)with suspected belpharospasm. Out of these 69 cases,35(51%)were using antipsychotic and antianxiety drugs,16(23%)were using antianxiety only,and 10(14%)were using antipsychotic drug only. Conclusion:Blepharospasm is frequent among users of psychotropic drugs. It is more frequent among users of antianxiety drugs and may occur in users of antipsychotic drugs.
