Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of Posner-Schlossman syndrome who was positive for cytomegalovirus(CMV)and who developed retinal vasculitis and multiple branch retinal artery occlusion. Case:A 63-year-old woman presented with lower visual field defect in the right eye. She had been diagnosed with Posner-Schlossman syndrome 10 years before followed by attacks about twice a year. The right eye developed retinal vasculitis 4 months later cataract surgery. Furthermore the right eye was followed by multiple branch retinal artery occlusion 7 months later. Systemic corticosteroid administration was effective temporarily but retinal vasculitis recurred. Results:Biopsied aqueous was positive for CMV DNA and negative for herpes simplex virus DNA or varicella-zoster virus DNA. Conclusion:Posner-Schlossman syndrome may have been caused by CMV in this patient. Retinal vasculitis and multiple branch retinal artery occlusion may have been due to diabetes mellitus, cataract surgery, and long term administration of topical steroid.
