Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of neuroretinochoroiditis due presumably to syphilitic infection. Case:A 55-year-old male presented with blurring of vision in the right eye since 9 days and in the left since 4 days before. Corrected visual acuity was 0.02 right and 0.1 left. Central scotoma was present in both eyes. Both eyes showed opaque retina in the posterior fundus with hyperemia and swelling of optic disc. Serum antibody for syphilis was elevated to 20,480 fold by TPHA method. Peroral amoxicillin with corticosteroid was followed by transparency of retina 10 days later, disappearance of central scotoma 6 weeks later, and improved visual acuity of 1.2 in either eye 3 months later. Conclusion:There is a high possibility that syphilitic infection induced optic nerve and fundus lesions in the present case.
