Abstract. Purpose:To report cases who developed detachment of Descemet's membrane during cataract surgery. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 7 eyes of 6 patients who developed detachment of Descemet's membrane out of 4,600 eyes that received uneventful phacoemulsification-aspiration during the past 70 months. Results:All the 7 eyes received soft shell technique using Viscoat®. Detachment of Descemet's membrane developed after application of ultrasound and was located in the central cornea. It eventually healed spontaneously. Conclusion:Detachment of Descemet's membrane is a liability during uneventful cataract surgery using soft shell method.
