Abstract. Purpose:To report deformation of haptics of intraocular lens(IOL)after cataract surgery. Case and Findings:A 75-year-old female received cataract surgery in both eyes. Acrylic single-piece IOL was implanted following phacoemulsification-aspiration. Postoperative corrected visual acuity ranged from 0.8 to 1.0 right and from 0.9 to 1.2 left. The visual acuity decreased to 0.4 in either eye 3 years later. Both eyes showed deformed IOL haptics with aftercataract and marked contracture of anterior capsule. She regained corrected visual acuity of 1.0 in either eye following anterior and posterior capsulotomy using Nd:YAG laser. Conclusion:Haptics of acrylic single-piece IOL is flexible and has low tensile strength. Deformation may therefore result following marked contracture of anterior lens capsule.
