Abstract. Purpose:To report a nosocomical outbreak of epidemic keratoconjunctivitis(EKC). Cases and Findings:A woman, who had been diagnosed with EKC elsewhere, came for a visit to an inpatient on June 18. Another patient, who was discharged from the hospital on July 1, showed clinical manifestations of EKC due to adenovirus 8 when seen on July 11 as outpatient. Two doctors developed EKC the following day. Infection of EKC further spread to involve 4 doctors, one hospital staff, 34 inpatients, and 9 outpatients. Spread of EKC could not be prevented by wearing of disposable gloves for examination of EKC patients. The nosocomical outbreak ceased after doctors started wearing disposable gloves for examination and treatment of all in-and outpatients. Conclusion:Use of disposable gloves was the most effective means to prevent nosocomical transmission of EKC.
