Abstract. Purpose:To describe our new probe for congenital occlusion of nasolacrimal duct in infants. Cases and Method:We constructed a probe using a 25-guage cannula. Its length ranged from 30 to 34mm. This probe was used for congenital occlusion of nasolacrimal duct in 22 infant eyes. Results:A single insertion opened the nasolacrimal duct in all the eyes. The depth of insertion ranged from 24 to 33mm. The depth correlated positively with the age of the infant. Conclusion:Currently available probes for infants have sharp tips that may damage the nasolacrimal duct, and too narrow probes may create false passages. Our new probe is safe and effective for infants.
