Abstract. Purpose:To report the sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics in 4 age groups. Method:Bacterial organisms were isolated from 279 patients with conjunctivitis. They were tested for sensitivity to:chloramphenicol(CP),erythromaycin(EM),tetracycline(TC),dibekacin(DKB),cefmenoxicime(CMX),vancomycin(VCM),sulbenicilin(SBPC),levofloxacin(LVFX),tosfloxacin(TFLX),and gatifloxacin(GFLX). Patients were divided into 4 age groups. Results:The most frequent microorganism was Staph. epidermidis, followed by Corynebacterium and Staph. aureus. VCM and CP were effective for methicillin-resistant Staph. aureus(MRSA)in all age groups. CMX seemed to be the first choice for all age groups. Patients over 1 year of age responded to TC. GFLX was generally effective for patients under 64 years of age. Conclusion:Conjunctivitis can best be treated by antibiotics with the above results in mind.
