Crystalline opacifications of PMMA intraocular lenses made by IOPTEX

要約　過去に当院で白内障手術を82歳と85歳女性の両眼に行った。術式は水晶体囊外摘出術と眼内レンズ挿入術である。IOPTEX社製のPMMA眼内レンズ（モデルUVL304-01）を使用した。手術から約10年後に視力低下で再受診した。1例には両眼，他の1例には左眼の眼内レンズに混濁が生じていた。3眼とも混濁は顆粒状で，眼内レンズの全層にわたり，特にその光学部に強かった。移植された眼内レンズに劣化または混濁が生じ得ることを示す症例であり，眼内レンズ移植後の患者には生涯にわたる観察が望まれる。

Abstract.　We earlier performed bilateral cataract surgery on two females aged 82 and 85 years respectively. Both cases underwent extracapsular cataract extraction and insertion of PMMA intraocular lens（IOL）made by IOPTEX（model UVL 304-01）. About 10 years after surgery,both patients visited us again for decreased visual acuity. Opacification of IOL was present bilaterally in one patient and unilaterally in the other. The opacity in the 3 affected eyes was granular and confluent,involved the whole layer of IOL,and was more pronouned in the pupillary zone. These cases illustrate that implanted PMMA IOL may undergo deterioration or opacity. We advocate lifelong followup of IOL-implanted patients.
