Abstract. We investigated the psychosocial factors related to self-care behavior of contact lens in 203 users. A questionnaire was handed to each user to describe the actual state of contact lens care and his or her psychological characteristics. As a major outcome, the self-care behavior of contact lens was positively correlated with age and was negatively correlated with alexithymia,ie affective disorder characterized by inability to recognize or express emotions. Level of self-care behavior of contact lens was higher in users of one-day and frequently disposable ones than in those of hard or conventional soft contact lens. In order to improve self-care of contact lens, psychological supports are necessary to promote the competence of recognizing and expressing the feelings and senses of contact lens users.
