Abstract. A 64-year-old man presented with pain and hyperemia in his right eye since one week before. The corrected visual acuity was 0.5. The right eye showed conjunctival hyperemia, chemosis, folds of Descemet membrane and signs of iritis. Systemic corticosteroid and antibiotics were futile. We performed biopsy of the sclera 5 weeks after his initial visit. Scleral incision was followed by pus discharge, from which Streptococcus pneumococcus was isolated. Cure was obtained after additional corticosteroid and antibiotics. Another 44-year-old woman had received surgery for retinal detachment in her right eye 4 years before. She visited us for ocular pain and prolapsed silicone sponge. When the prolapsed silicone sponge was removed, the underlying sclera had become necrotic and attenuated. The area of bared uvea was covered by a conjunctival transplant from the fellow eye. Gram-positive bacillus was isolated from the sponge. Cure was obtained by additional surgeries and medications.
