Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of pit-macular syndrome with detached macula. Case and Findings:A 18-year-old male presented with impaired visual acuity since 6 months before. His corrected visual acuity was 0.9 right and 1.2 left. The right eye showed an optic pit and serous retinal detachment in the macula extending to the optic disc. Fluorescein angiography showed the pit to be hypofluorescent and dye pooling temporal to the disc. Visual acuity decreased to 0.1 3 months later. Retinal detachment had increased in area. Optical coherent tomography(OCT)showed retinoschisis and retinal detachment involving the macula. The area of retinoschisis was communicated to the optic pit. The right eye received vitrectomy with gas tamponade. A microhole was detected within the optic disc. Retinal detachment decreased and visual acuity improved to 0.3 5 months later. Conclusion:There is a possibility that fluid may enter the intra-or subretinal space through the microhole. Vitreous surgery was effective for retinal detachment in this particular case.
