  • Look Inside

A 50-year-old man presented with diminished vision in his left eye since 5 years before. He was living in northeastern district of China and was working in an abattoir. His corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and light perception left. His left eye had posterior synechia and cataract. The fundus was invisible. Ultrasonography showed a cystic lesion posterior to the lens. The peripheral blood showed increased eosinophils and elevated titer against parasites. Computerized tomography(CT)of the brain showed a cystic tumor of 15mm in diamter in the left frontal lobe. The surgically removed intravitreal tumor contained Cysticercus cellulosae,or larva of tapeworm. The cystic tumor in the brain disappeared after systemic praziquantel. This case illustrates that zoonotic infection is still a problem in ophthalmology.
