We reviewed 16 eyes in 14 cases of ischemic optic neuropathy during the past 7 years. The series comprised 7males and 7 females including bilateral cases. The ages ranged from 58 to 84 years, average 69 years. Fifteen cases were treated by systemic corticosteroid,vasodilator,and/or stellate ganglion block. The visual acuity improved in 9 eyes(56%)and remained unchanged in 7 eyes(44%). The initial visual field changes included horizontal hemianopia 10 eyes, paracentral scotoma 3 eyes, and central scotoma 2 eyes. Perimetry could be repeated in 14 eyes. The visual field improved in 5 eyes, remained unchanged in 4 eyes, and deteriorated in 4 eyes. The findings show that medication may improve visual acuity and visual field in ischemic optic neuropathy.
