We reviewed 152 eyes of 141 patients of exudative polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. The series comprised 122 eyes of 111males(78.7%)and 30 eyes of 30 females(21.3%). Their ages ranged from 54 to 89 years, average 71.2±7.5 years. They were followed up for 6 to 72months,average 29months. A total of 111 eyes were treated by dye laser photocoagulation. Laser was applied to the polypoidal lesion only in 32 eyes and to abnormal vascular network also in 79 eyes. The other 41 eyes received no photocoagulation. The final visual acuity in the whole series was 0.5 or over in 78 eyes(51.3%),between 0.4 and 0.1 in 40 eyes(26.3%),and below 0.1 in 34 eyes(22.4%). There was no significant difference regarding the final visual acuity between 111 eyes that received laser and 41 eyes that did not,or between 32 eyes that received laser to polypoidal lesions only and 32 eyes that received additional laser to pathological vessels. The findings show that exudative polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy results in fair visual outcome and that photocoagulation to polypoidal lesions alone may be effective in some instances.
