Purpose:To evaluate the efficacy of intensive local corticosteroid therapy for ocular sarcoidosis. Cases and Method:This study involved 72 patients who were diagnosed with ocular sarcoidosis in the past 5 years. The series comprised 8men and 64 women Their ages ranged from 14 to 79 years, average 54 years. Sarcoidosis was diagnosed histopathologically in 14 cases, clinically in 26 cases, and was suspected in 32 cases. Patients were followed for at least 3months,for an average of 23months. Eyes with anterior uveitis were treated with topical therapy and, when necessary, with subconjunctival injections of corticosteroid. Eyes with posterior uveitis received trans-Tenon injections of triamcinolone acetonide. Results:There was no difference between the baseline and final visual acuities. Signs of inflammation significantly subsided after treatment. Conclusion:Sarcoidosis-associated uveitis was effectively controlled with intensive local corticosteroid therapy in the majority of cases.
