Purpose:To evaluate the efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy for subfoveal choroidal neovascularization(CNV). Cases:This study involved 25 eyes of 25 patients with CNV. The etiology of CNV were as follows;age-related macular degeneration in 15 eyes, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy in 8 eyes and other CNV in 2. The mean age at study was 74 years ranged from 51 to 88 years. Results:The averaged visual acuity was 0.11 before treatment,0.11 after 1month,0.10 after 3months,and 0.08 after 6months. There were not statistically significant. Visual acuity improved by 3 lines or better in 1 eye after 1month,2 eyes after 3months,and 1 eye after 6months. It remained stable in 24,19 and 18 eyes respectively. It deteriorated in 0,4 and 6 eyes respectively. The averaged foveal lesion thickness was 523μm before treatment,517μm after 1month,500μm after 3,and 428μm 6. Four eyes needed the second TTT. Four eyes required other treatments. Conclusion:Six months after TTT,visual acuity was maintained in 70% of cases with a tendency for the sobfoveal lesion to decrease in thickness.
