Advancement rotation flap is a surgical technique to cover the bared area by a pedicle flap. We performed pterygium surgery in 59 eyes of 55 patients using this technique. The age of patients averaged 65.3±12.1 years. Cases were followed up for 15.8±12.9 months. Although pterygium recurred in 2 eyes(3.3%),no case needed additional surgery. Pterygium recurred in none out of 8 eyes(0%)when operated by an experienced surgeon and in 2 out of 51 eyes(3.9%)when operated by surgeons of 3 to 4 years' training. The findings show that pterygium surgery with this technique results in low rate of recurrence even operated by surgeons with lesser experience. It is also useful in preventing recurrence of pterygium after transplantation of conjunctival pedicle flap.
