  • Look Inside

We report a case of common peroneal nerve palsy following use of a Japanese-style toilet. A 21-year-old female noticed that her left foot dropped after using a Japanese-style toilet, which requires that the user squat on the floor. Examination at our hospital revealed that the muscles supplied by the common peroneal nerve were weak and sensation in the common peroneal nerve area was reduced. A nerve conduction test at the neck of the fibula revealed deterioration of CMAP and conduction velocity. She was treated conservatively, and assessment of the common peroneal nerve symptoms and a nerve conduction test showed recovery after one month. We describe the course of common peroneal nerve palsy following the use of a Japanese-style toilet.
