　HGFとc-met mRNAの発現をラット脳の形成過程およびラット褐色細胞腫細胞PC−12においてreverse transcriptase（RT）—polymerase chain reaction（PCR）法を用い検討した。HGFとc-met mRNAの発現はいずれも胎児脳では低レベルの発現がみられたが，出生直後急激な増加が認められ（P−1からP−12），P−20以降次第に減少していった。NGF処理によるPC−12細胞のHGFとc-met mRNAの発現は，NGF処理後2日目から5日目で発現しその後消失した。PC−12細胞の神経突起はHGFおよびc-metに対するアンチセンスオリゴヌクレオチドにより抑制された。NGF処理によるPC−12細胞の神経突起の伸長はc-metが活性化され，情報伝達することを推測した。したがって，c-MET蛋白の活性化とHGFおよびc-metmRNAの発現増加はラット脳の発達において神経形成に重要な役割をすることが示唆された。

Gene expression of HGF and c-met proto-oncogene was examined during rat brain develop-ment and in cultured PC-12 cells, using reverse-transcriptase (RT)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The both mRNAs of HGF and c-met proto-oncogene were remained at low levels in the middle and late stages of gestation (E-13 and E-18). After birth, and the level of both mRNA expression suddenly increased. During P-1 and P-12, their high level of expression continued and then decreased in P-20 and adult brain.
