Authors studied the effects of a new psychotropic drug, centrophénoxine (T-119) on 22 cases with neurological or endocrine disorders.

Four out of 8 cases with cerebral vascular distur-bance and one case with hepatic come showed im-provement in disturbances of consciousness after administration of the drug; namely, three patients with dementia caused by encephalomalacia showed vivid facial expression and became active, and more-over in 2 cases of them recovery from urinarv in-continence was observed.

However, we observed no clinical improvement in 3 cases with lateral amyotrophic sclerosis, 2 cases with panhypopituitarism and 1 case with diabetes incipidus.

There were observed no remarkable changes in electroencephalograms of 11 cases before and after treatment, except for the suppression of δ-bursts in 2 cases and the slight increasement of β-activity in half of the cases.

Glucose tolerance test on 10 cases showed no significant change before and after treatment.

The most important action of this drug is pro-bably direct stimulation to patient's impaired brain and to the elevation of level of consciousness.

There were occasionally observed several manifesta-tions such as insomnia, anxiety and even psycho-motoric agitation, which were probably side effects related to the above mentioned main action of the drug.
