  • Look Inside

A new minor tranquilizer of Benzodiazepine series, CS-370 synthesized at the Central Research Labora-tries, Sankyo, was administered in 60 patients diag-nosed as neurotic disorders for the assessment of its efficacy, with the following results.

The clinical effects were noticed to occur within 1 week in most of the cases. It should be stressed that this compound could induce a remarkable im-provement in the types of neurosis which proved intractable by any previous minor tranquilizer of Benzodiazepine series, such as neurotic reactions in neuromuscular system, and phobic, compulsive, and depressive reactions. At this point, it may be righteously claimed that CS-370 is a most potent antineurotic agent available at present among ones of Benzodiazepine series.

As for the side effects, lethargy, sedation and dysequibrium were observed, and also a decrease of sexual interest and volition was complained in a few cases. These, however, disappeared immediately after the discontinuation of the administration.

In conclusion, CS-370 should be considered as the first choice for the above-mentioned neurotic di-sorders and long-standing neurosis, which both proved refractory to other minor tranquilizers. Although the complete recovery should be difficult to be expected only through the administration of this compound, CS-370 could play a significant role as a basic agent for supporting and facilitating the psychotherapeutic processes in the neurotic patients.
