  • Look Inside

A case of primary intracranial reticulum cell sarcoma was reported.

The patient was a 39 years-old male who com-plained of headache, nuchal pain and difficulty in walking for a month prior to admission, and these symptomes aggravated gradually.

The patient was in the state of somnolence at the time of admission, and he had left spastic hemiparesis and disorientation. The right carotid angiography revealed a thalamic tumor with tern-poral extension.

The right temporal craniotomy was performed, and reddish yellow mass in the anterior temporal lobe was removed. The tumor extended further medially and posteriorly and appeared to infiltrate in thalamus.

Further operative intervention was not performed, because the removal of anterior temporal lobe in-cluding tumor tissue was thought to achieve satis-factory.

After the operation the patient had been semi-comatous for a week but gradually regainedconsciousness by two weeks. Radiation therapy of cobalt 60 was markedly effective, which was confirmed by the carotid angiography prior to and after the radiation therapy.

The histological examinations revealed reticulum cell sarcoma.

No tumor was found in any other parts of the body.

The patient has been well for 8 months after the operation up to the present and no sign of recurrence is found.
