  • Look Inside

We have described our methods and techniques of the selective external carotid angiographies, i, e, the percutaneous arteriography of the external carotid artery, the external carotid angiography via femoral catheterizations, and the retrograde superficial temporal arteriography. The advantages and disadvantages of the each techniques are dis-cussed.

The normal angiographic anatomy of the external carotid tributaries are demonstrated. The pathologic findings of the eight clinical cases, which include 3 cases of meningiomas, 1 case of intra- and ex-tracranial arteriovenous malformation, 2 cases of cerebrovascular occlusive diseases and 2 cases of malignant tumors in the face and neck, are in detail presented and demonstrated.

The clinical significances of the selective external carotid angiography are also discussed, analysing a variety of the intra- and extracranial lesion with the external carotid circulations. Selective external carotid angiography, especially using the femoral catheterization, is valuable in assessing the nature and extent of the lesions, and further in evaluating the method of the treatment, the operative indica-tions and methods, the pre- and postoperative ma-nagement of the patients, and the prognosis of the patients.
