  • Look Inside

Intracranial chondroma is very rare tumor. In our country only Dr. Saito and Dr. Sakata reported a few cases of intracranial chondroma.

Recently, a patient, 58-year-old male, with a large intracranial chondroma in the left middle and pos-terior cranial fossa, was experienced. He was admitt-ed in the First Department of Surgery, Osaka University Medical School on May 30, 1968.

The patient showed the pareses of the V, VII, VIII, IX, X and XII cranial nerves on the left side, and papilloedema. The plain X-rays of his skull disclosed a spotted calcification of the left tempo-roparietoocciptal region, and the destruction of the left pyramidal bone. After carotid angiography, ver-tebral angiography and pneumoventriculography, a left temporal craniotomy was performed, and the supratentorial part of the tumor was partially re-sected.

Histological examination of this tumor revealed chondroma.

The patient was discharged with fairly improved symptoms about three months after operation.
