  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Deformities of cerebral arteries due to intracerebral hemorrhage were demonstrated in three brains by methacrylate arterial casts.

Medial shift of the lateral striate arteries and re-current artery of Heubner on the left was caused by hematoma in the left basal ganglia in case No. 1. A few resin balls were found at the ends of their branches. Caudal shift of paramedian branches in lower pons was caused by brainstem hemorrhage in case No. 2 and rostral shift of paramedian branchesin midbrain and upper pons was caused by brainstem hemorrhage in case No. 3. A few resin balls were noted at the ends of paramedian branches in the mid-pons. Resin balls in the two cases might have been caused by rupture of arterial wall. Possible etiological significance of the resin balls in the production of hematoma was suggested.

In case No.1 there were seen shift of left anterior cerebral artery to the right at the cingular gyrus, poor filling of methacrylate in the vertebro-basilar system and flattend basilar artery, which might have been resulted from the expansive supratentorial le-sion. In the two cases of brainstem hemorrhage there were no deformities of the supra-tentorial arterial casts.
