  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A series of brain scanning using 99mTc and 113mIn has been presented. An overall result in 101 cases with brain tumors showed a diagnostic accuracy of 75%. Meningiomas, glioblastomas and metastatic tumors gave excellent results (90% accuracy). Results were unsatisfactory in tumors located infratentorially or in the neighborhood of the base of the brain. Among supratentorial tumors, temporal mass gave the poor results when compared with those in the frontal, parietal or occipital region.

No significant difference was noted in diagnostic accuracies between 99mTc and 113mIn brain scans.

The combination of brain scanning and conven-tional neuroradiological contrast studies (air studies and arteriographies) made possible the detection of verified lesions with an overall accuracies of 100%.

The combination of brain scannings with plain skull films, ophthalmological examinations and EEG yielded a diagnostic accuracy of 99% in 101 cases.

The possibilities of predicting tumor pathology and of detecting recurrent tumors by use of brain scanning have been discussed.
