  • Look Inside

 Electroencephalography was studied in seventeen cases of achalasia. Electroencephalography was taken at rest and after hyperventilation in each case. Then this disorder was classified into three groups electroencephalographically, as follows;

 Group 1 (Normal group); there appear α and β waves in normal way at rest and only minimal changes after hyperventilation.

 Group 2 (Border line group); Electroencephalography shows low voltage with 14-30 c/s at rest and no changes after hyperventilation.

 Group 3 (Abnormal group); Slow waves appear occasionally at rest and frequently after hyperventilation.

 Normal group was seen in 47.3%, border line group in 23.5% and abnormal group in 23.5% of all cases. These results suggest existance of some factors in central nervous system, which would work in this disorder.
